Dr. Garrand specializes in rich internet application design using Flash, Flex, Ajax and other leading technologies. Additionally, he is a recognized expert on information architecture, content strategy and usability.

Since completing his first interactive media project in 1992, he has worked on more than a hundred Web and multimedia programs and dozens of rich internet applications for companies across several industries. Dr. Garrand’s recent experience includes:

• Ajax online research tools for brokers at Citibank
• Web applications and content screens for GiantEagle
• Flex business process management applications
• Flash! Web-based psychology e-learning simulations for Pearson Education
• Browser-based prison tracking systems for the State of Massachusetts
• World languages instructional Flash!-based CD-ROMs for Houghton Mifflin
• Content strategy and development for interactive media, including writing, animation and video.

Dr. Garrand frequently speaks at industry events and is the author of several publications, including his latest book, Writing for Multimedia and the Web: A Practical Guide to Content Development for Interactive Media (Focal Press, 2006). His current research includes harnessing the power of rich internet applications and Web 2.0 capabilities to accomplish clients’ business objectives and meet user needs.

Dr. Garrand holds a Ph.D. in Communication with a minor in Professional Writing from the University of Southern California.
