The Challenge
FXall needed a partner to redesign their trading application platform, Altair, as well as each of their trading application products that serve various customer segments, including QuickFill, QuickTrade, QuickOMS and Marketplace, as well as their public Web site.
The Solution
Since TandemSeven team members designed and developed the research portal and public site for FXall's launch in early 2000, the portal experts were a trusted partner. This earlier work entailed conducting extensive interviews with prospective users from all segments and geographic regions. Additionally, detailed personas and user profiles were created and have been continually updated and referenced in TandemSeven's subsequent work with FXall.
For this project, TandemSeven performed user research, defined workflows and created the information architecture for the new applications from existing requirements. The information was used to create the visual design and develop the user interface and flexible prototypes. Considering usability and ergonomics in the new designs was paramount. Finally, the designs were validated with clients using prototypes.
TandemSeven's design streamlined the trading process to execute trades with one click, and live streaming quotes and other real-time functionality were incorporated into trade execution buttons and other 'live' elements in the interface. Due to aggressive timelines, TandemSeven employed a rapid form of its user-centered design approach to quickly confirm or define requirements and workflows, assess usability needs and begin developing the information architecture for the complex trading applications.
The Results
TandemSeven created a leading-edge design for FXall's next generation protocol for active FX traders. The design enables one-click execution in a streamlined interface that caters to the users. It also builds upon FXall's existing capabilities and back-end systems while leveraging the existing brand. The strength of its platform and solutions has garnered FXall with over 20 industry awards from leading publications, including Euromoney, Global Investor, Forbes and FX Week, since its launch in 2001.
