TandemSeven helps the world’s largest soup company replace over 100 disconnected intranet assets with one unified enterprise portal.

About Campbell Soup Company
Campbell Soup Company, the world’s largest soup company, is a global manufacturer and marketer of high quality foods and simple meals, including soup, baked snacks, vegetable-based beverages, and premium chocolate products, with annual revenues in excess of $7.3 billion. Founded in 1869, the company has a portfolio of market-leading brands, including Campbell's, Pepperidge Farm, Arnott's and V8.

The Challenge
There was duplication in the way portal technology was being implemented. Due to a lack of corporate standards and governance, the portals were built to meet the needs of individual business units and functions, and were not focused on providing a common set of tools to enhance employee productivity and engagement. This resulted in a fragmented, unproductive employee experience, where content and services were inconsistent and hard to find and use. The fragmented deployment of technology resulted in higher cost of ownership. Campbell’s places strong emphasis on a highly engaged workforce, the individual needs of each employee, and the collective value of the connected global enterprise. To support these values, the company embarked on a global initiative to replace over 100 disconnected intranet sites with one portal. The portal needed to support alignment across the business as well as promote best practice sharing while accommodating workforce diversity, including desktop and kiosk users.

The Solution
Campbell’s engaged TandemSeven to design a single, integrated, user-centric, enterprise-wide productivity portal to serve the individual and collective needs of its global businesses. As part of its full-service experience-centered design process, TandemSeven conducted contextual and stakeholder interviews with 50 employees and surveyed the entire online workforce to understand user needs. The team established an information architecture and user-interface design with personalized content to meet the needs of all parties. Furthermore, TandemSeven created business-specific visual designs to reinforce the strong connection each employee has to their business’ brands.

The Results
Campbell Soup Company's enterprise portal, my Campbell, was named as one of the "World's Ten Best Intranets of 2008" by Nielsen Norman Group. The final design supported all tasks in user testing, and yielded strong accolades from all stakeholders. Additionally, several design innovations were engineered by CapTech Ventures into the IBM WebSphere platform. Ultimately, Campbell’s expects the new portal to increase employee engagement and productivity and bolster community within the global organization.
