About Thomson CompuMark
Thomson CompuMark is the global leader in trademark research and brand protection, and maintains the world's largest collection of international trademark information. The company provides intellectual property professionals with the information they need to protect the value of IP assets, through a wide range of trademark, copyright, and title products and services.

The Challenge
Thomson CompuMark established an initiative aimed at redefining their suite of online tools for trademark professionals. The goals of the initiative were to deliver superior value to clients by developing a reporting and analysis tool for clients in North America and Europe, and bring the core applications together in a new branded portal experience. To achieve these goals, Thomson CompuMark needed to obtain and analyze findings from user interviews across a number of geographies, and produce new interface designs which would improve client effectiveness across key workflows.

The Solution
Thomson CompuMark engaged TandemSeven to design and develop the user interface for a reporting and analysis tool and the global navigation framework for the new environment. Using TandemSeven’s experience-centered methodology, the team validated existing user research, and then conducted targeted interviews in the United States and Europe. The results of the research were used to prioritize and augment the existing requirements. The research also uncovered several opportunities for developing new areas of functionality.

Next, the team developed the portal interface framework to enable global navigation in six languages, created templates for common screen types, developed visual guidelines, and designed and built the HTML and Javascript for the interface.

The Results
User research results enabled the team to design and build an online environment that provides users with improved usability and navigation, a consistent experience across distinct functions and applications, and a positive and seamless brand experience. Thomson CompuMark is well on track to achieve its business goals for SERION™. Moreover, client feedback has confirmed that clients value the time-saving features of the new Analysis Tool and appreciate how well the UI design supports the needs of their work practice.
