Chicago, IL., September 19, 2005 - Nick Iozzo, Principal User Experience Architect for TandemSeven, will lead the first two seminars on Human-Computer Interactions (HCI) hosted by the Associated Colleges of the Chicago Area (ACCA) at Wheaton College on September 20 and 27.
Mr. Iozzo, an expert in human factors and software usability, opened the seminar series by providing an overview of the origins of HCI and best practices in user-centered design. Case studies and sample artifacts illustrated the discussion, which also referred to how usability is affected by some of the newest technologies and programming techniques. The second seminar returns to the foundations of HCI, and explores the cognitive psychology principles that guide design decisions. Real world examples will illustrate how design is influenced by human capacities for acquiring knowledge and expertise, memory, error and error recovery, perception, attention, and signal detection theory. Together, the two sessions lay the foundation for subsequent seminars during the Fall of 2005 that explore current topics.
"The practice of usability, or designing for Human Computer Interaction appears deceptively simple yet most organizations struggle with this", stated Mr. Iozzo. "In the past twelve months Fortune 500 companies have increased their focus on software usability in order to improve customer relationships and competitive advantage."
The ACCA seminar series communicates the fundamentals of and current trends in human computer interaction to students, faculty, and practitioners. The series began with Mr. Iozzo's seminar on September 19, and continues through November 15, 2005. More information on the seminar series may be found at http://cs.lewisu.edu/mathcs/ACCAHCI2005.html.
